My Baptism

Jeff: Welcome and prayer
Bible readings

Shelley: Matthew 28:18-20
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Acts 2:36-41a
Joshua: “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.”
Anna: When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles,
Abigail & Samuel: “Brothers, what shall we do?”
Anna: Peter replied,
Joshua: “Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
Anna: With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them,
Joshua: “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”
Anna: Those who accepted his message were baptised.
Shelley: Ephesians 1:3-14
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.
In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

Sharon: Why I am being baptised
Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended to the grave.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come again to judge
the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Pastor John Campbell: On Baptism
Amazing Grace
[John Newton]

Amazing grace - how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now I’m found
Was blind, but now I see.

’Twas Grace that taught my heart to fear
And Grace my fears relieved
How precious did that Grace appear
The hour I first believed

Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far
and Grace will lead me home.

Baptismal confession
Triple immersion into the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
What the Lord has done in me

Let the weak say, “I am strong”
Let the poor say, “I am rich”
Let the blind say, “I can see,
It’s what the Lord has done in me.”
Let the weak say, “I am strong”
Let the poor say, “I am rich”
Let the blind say, “I can see,
It’s what the Lord has done in me.”

Hosanna, hosanna
To the Lamb that was slain
Hosanna, hosanna
Jesus died and rose again

Into the river I will wade
There my sins are washed away
From the heavens, mercy streams
Of the Saviour’s love for me.
I will rise from waters deep
Into the saving arms of God
I will sing salvation songs
Jesus Christ has set me free.

Hosanna, hosanna
To the Lamb that was slain
Hosanna, hosanna
Jesus died and rose again

Let the weak say, “I am strong”
Let the poor say, “I am rich”
Let the blind say, “I can see,
It’s what the Lord has done in me.”

Meredith is right. Just wonderful.

I'm going to share these posts with my children this morning. They are looking over my shoulder right now to see the great pictures. What a joy to see your family and how much those kiddos are growing!

If only I could have been there to confess or declare my belief in Christ by joining you in saying the Apostles' Creed, but we will read it aloud this morning as if we were there.

In Jesus,

Tomorrow I hope to post video of the 'triple immersion', but first I have to finish writing this 2,300 word essay on baptism for Church HIstory!!

Congratulations on your baptism! I'm sorry we weren't able to share with you in this wonderful occasion. You are an amazing woman of God, and your devotion to Him is plain for all to see.
