Looking for Lions

A week ago I saw two lions on some fence posts while I was driving the kids home after picking Josh up at school. I pointed them out to distract Josh and Anna from their incipient fight in the back seat of our Tarago. Since then, looking for lions seems to have become something of a hobby for me.

We've also seen quite a few swans:and lots of flamingoes:
This morning I took the kids to the library, the supermarket, and ... for a drive to look for lions. Here's our collection so far:Just a little note here: I stopped to photograph these last two today and the guy who has just bought the house came over for a chat. When he heard how interested the kids were in all the lions we were finding, he said we could have these two if my husband could work out how to get them off the bricks! Any ideas? The kids would love some lions of their very own.In case you didn't stop to count like us, that was 17 lions. The girls were stoked to find the last one in our very own street today!

Then one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals." - Revelation 5:5

That's interesting! It seems to be a much more common of a trend there than here!

What fun! My kids have a game where they are always looking for yellow cars when we're driving around. Lions sound much more interesting. Btw, you'd be happy to know that my son was drawing a picture of Australia today. : )

That's a LOT of lions!! You will need to take the family to Zurich. There are lots of lion statues there including a very beautiful one carved into the face of a rocky wall near a lake. Maybe you could look it up on the internet in the meantime.

And in fact, here is a link! It is actually in Lucerne. And actually it is of a dying lion. But if you spare the detail, the children may like it just the same.

Thanks for the link Meredith. I will show them tomorrow! It was interesting to read further down that page and see the reference to Zwingli and the reformation (and even better to already know who they were talking about!).

We all went for a walk this afternoon to visit the ducks and to show Joshua the lion in our street, and he was a little impressed - but much more so with the prospect that we might be able to have our very own lions. Even Samuel has been saying, "Look, lion! Mummy, look lion."

Hello again!
Hey, on a completely unrelated matter, thanks for putting me in your "Blogs I enjoy" spot. What an honour. And thankyou for the inspiration because I have set a similar space on my blog. And yes, you were the first one to be added to that list.

Hope the children liked the lion. Did you work out how to detatch the lions for your house?

They were very interested in the Lion, Meredith. It was the stimulus for a great conversation about loyalty, bravery, and doing the right thing even if it meant bad things might happen to you.

Hi Sharon,
After viewing this I ended up heading to Perth for work yesterday and I was to drawn to all the lions I was seeing. I even mentioned it to some work collegues they thought it was a great idea and organised a lion safari (well actually an animal safari) on the weekend with a picnic they had a marvellous time.

That's great Ali! How hilarious. Were you around my neck of the woods? I think the lions are so common here because so many Italian families lived here when the land was first opened for building. That's what the Jewish man said the other day when I asked him, anyway. There seem to be a lot of people from a continental European heritage in this particular area of Perth. Jeff and I were invited to a Bible study yesterday and most of the ladies had Italian Bibles, rather than English ones!

That is sooo funny, and amazing that you found so many! You don't happen to live near Stirling do you? Lions on letterboxes is such an Italian thing to do...

Hunting for lions sounds like a very fun game and one our kids would love to do, although I think there are only 2 lions in Albany that I can think of, and they have been there since I was little... I'll have to keep my eyes open for any more :-)
